An overview of online office Productivity suites

Considering that peer-driven search-logic has several benefits, let us give WIKIA a chance. Search remains Google's only revenue stream (their online productivity suites like Google Docs have floundered against ZOHO, and eDeskONline). So it will be interesting to see how they respond to WIKIA.

 • Other online applications need consideration... Do a search on "online office" and see the variety of choices available. One that I have been using for two years is eDeskOnline.

 • This 'open' logic will ultimately beat google. Imagine the advantages in using open source search logic in personal information managers like zoho, and edeskonline.
 • For a keynote address, Gates should be talking about how to make the world more 'friction-less': i.e how is he going to facilitate the move to the free on-line, on-mobile productivity suites ( like Google Docs, or eDeskOnline) ?
 • This resistence to change is ages old. Earlier the pen was derided as a horror tool in the hands of peasants. Now it is the mobile. For each illicit activity on the mobile, there are a thousand good things being done. For example, I use edeskonline to view my stock portfolio. My friend uses zoho to collaborate on projects.
 • The i-phone is set up against the trend of open operating systems. The question worth contemplating is whether free online productivity suites ( like google, zoho, and eDeskOnline )

can work smoothly on this hardware.

 • A suffix to the article is " how does one use this cool bit of hardware". I am looking forward to using eDeskOnline (a personal information manager) on the IPod . Currently i watch my accounts-integrated stock-portfolio on my Nokia. Zoho is trying to play catch-up.
 • The top trend of 2007 was the virtualisation of the office productivity suite. The in-the-cloud computing made possible by zoho, thinkfree, and eDeskOnline are pointers to the near-future. These applications allow us to be unshakled from our desktops.
 • A cool and free Personal Information Manager that I am using is amazing in that it has more applications than zoho, and is integrated better .
 • Microsoft's Office Live does not cover shared documents yet .
 • Google Docs and spreadsheets does not have integrtion with emails,
 • Consumers should reward firms that work on open architecture. Linux is an example on the operating system front. zoho and edeskonline are good open source free web based applications that work in the 'office' space.
 • eDeskOnline has a unique accounting function
 • Zoho office has a good idea about integrating various functions .
 • Insta Coll does not have email yet .
 • Internet access during flights will allow me to acces my office work. I have been using edeskonline for two years. It is free and allows me to keep all information in one place.

Google always seems to be cooking up newer ideas, although they may have a hint of replication from existing ones. My concern is that, will Google allow users to integrate their existing PIM's like edeskonline.com or their personal Wikis with their Knol Environment, in a simple and easy way? That will help share / synchronise and maintain their personal notes / comments / feedback along with the main article.

This is a bit late but good move by Google. This step brings Google in a strong competition with existing companies like X-Drive, eDeskOnline, MS Live SkyDrive.
