How to use the edesk Spam Filter in Outlook or Outlook Express

This page tells you how to create a seperate Junk Filter in your Outlook or Outlook Express and make optimum use of the edeskonline spam filter.

Step 1: Create the Junk Mail folder
- Open your outlook(O) / outlook express (OE)
- Complete your sign in formalities.
- Click on File >> New >> Folder or alternativley use the Shortcut Key combination of Ctrl+Shift+E.
- In the Name: field, type in Junk Mail.
- If you are an Outlook user you will need to select the Post and Mail Items option in the Folder Contains: field.
- Once this step is completed, we will create a rule for the messages to be filtered to this folder.
Step 2: Create a filter rule (for Outlook)
- Click on Tools >> Rule Wizard
- In the Folder Information select the Junk Mail folder that you have just created.
- Click on the New...(Rule) button.
- Select Start from a blank rule.
- In the Conditions option select with specific words in the message header.
- Also select the option stop processing more rules, to prevent duplication of messages due to rules.
- In the box that appears below, click on the Specific Words link.
- In the Specify a word.... box type in the string "X-Spam-Flag: YES" and click on the Add button.
- Click the next button and in the box that appears select: move it to the specified folder.
- In the box that appears below, click on the Specified Folder link.
- In the Specify a folder.... box type in "Junk Mail" and click on the Add button.
- Click Next >> Click Next again at the exceptions box >> In the Specify a name for this rule: you may want to specify a name (Eg: Edesk Spam Filter).
- Click the Finish button.
- Your Spam Filter has been successfully created.
All your junk mails will be done away with in the Junk Mail Folder, and you can get peace of mind - rest assured!
Step 2: Create a filter rule (for Outlook Express)
- Click on Tools >> Message Rules >> Mail
- Select Where the Subject line contains specific words.
- Now in Rule Description, click on contains specific words
- Type the word **SPAM** and click on Add
- Click on Ok
- Now select: Move it to the specified folder.
- In Rule Description below, click on the specified link.
- Now select the Junk Mail folder which you created.
- In name of the Rule: you may want to specify a name (Eg: Edesk Spam Filter).
- Click the OK button.
- Your Spam Filter has been successfully created.
All your junk mails will be done away with in the Junk Mail Folder, and you can get peace of mind - rest assured!
