Dividends
Dividends are generally payments made to owners of a company. These payments can be in the form of cash or the issuance of additional Stock. Dividends are generally used as a way to allow the owners to participate in the profits generated by the company.
Enter the amount of Dividends received, your Accounts will automatically get updated.
Dividends can be paid in the following Forms:
- Cash Pay out: Cash dividends are those paid out in form of real cash. Such dividends are a form of investment income and are usually taxable to the recipient in the year they are paid. This is the most common method of sharing corporate profits with the shareholders of the company. After the anounce of the dividends the company set an record date in order to detrmine the name of the share holders who's name recorded in the share transfer book. The name registred on that day will get the dividend benefit
- Additional Stock: Stock or script dividends are those paid out in form of additional stock shares of the issuing corporation, or other corporation (e.g., its subsidiary corporation). They are usually issued in proportion to shares owned (For every 1000 shares of stock owned, 10% stock dividend will get the share holder 10 extra shares). This is very similar to a stock split in that it increases the total number of shares while lowering the price of each share and does not change the market capitalization or the total value of the shares held.
