  • the most important aspect of log analysis is trend, and not actual numbers.
  • awstats, removes a certain amount of robot traffic, which is why it is usually lower than other stats packages on all values.
  • If you look at the summary in Awstats you should see a section at the very top where you have “Viewed traffic” ie. humans and “Not viewed traffic” which is robots etc., ie. non-humans
  • Webalizer doesn’t even try to differenciate between the two and just gives you a total.

Proprietary Logs (Inhouse logs)

  1. This type of log is generally used when you need user specific data analysis and are not happy with the analysis provided from the above two analysers
  2. Here you need to write your own code for analysis of your website.
  3. These logs record data specific to your application which is not available to the other two analysers for eg., login id analysis used to access the page.
  4. Cannot use any 3rd Party Analysers like the one in the first case, you have to do it on your own.
  5. The figures will not be exact like in case of Web Server Stats, it contains partial data
