Talk:Web Statistics
From EDeskWiki
- the most important aspect of log analysis is trend, and not actual numbers.
- awstats, removes a certain amount of robot traffic, which is why it is usually lower than other stats packages on all values.
- If you look at the summary in Awstats you should see a section at the very top where you have “Viewed traffic” ie. humans and “Not viewed traffic” which is robots etc., ie. non-humans
- Webalizer doesn’t even try to differenciate between the two and just gives you a total.

Proprietary Logs (Inhouse logs)
- This type of log is generally used when you need user specific data analysis and are not happy with the analysis provided from the above two analysers
- Here you need to write your own code for analysis of your website.
- These logs record data specific to your application which is not available to the other two analysers for eg., login id analysis used to access the page.
- Cannot use any 3rd Party Analysers like the one in the first case, you have to do it on your own.
- The figures will not be exact like in case of Web Server Stats, it contains partial data
How do we view the statistics of my website
- assume that website xyz needs to be monitored
- simply go to the matching url = abc
- what you will see will look like ...
Differences between the three Analysis:
| Web Server Stats | Google Analytics | Proprietary logs |
|---|---|---|
| Complete Data | Partial Data as the
code sometimes doesnt get executed | Partial Data |
| Logs are from our own server | Google Server used | Own Server |
| 3rd Party Stats used | Google Analytics | Own Analysis |
| Pre login Analysis | Pre login Analysis | Post login Analysis |
